This summer, Moody Engineering is lucky enough to be volunteering at Parkmoor Elementary School’s Summer STEAM camp. This week’s was on bridge building using various materials and shapes. First the students came up with plans for their bridge by sketching out their ideas on paper. Next they started building the bridges using a combination of toothpicks, marshmallows, straws and tape. Students tested out which designs worked better, and compared and contrasted their designs with each others. Some even remade their bridges after testing them out and seeing what other students were doing. This was great hands-on learning activity that incorporated engineering, physics, design, teamwork and creativity.
