Martin Luther King Branch Library
Moody Engineering served as the civil engineer for the new 18,700 sq. ft. Martin Luther King branch library. The building site was formerly a parking lot for OSU East hospital that was cleared to facilitate construction of the library. Three separate parcels were utilized for library structure and two parking lots which required rezoning from P-2 parking and R-2 residential to Commercial Planned Development (CPD). Development of the site related to the library and parking lot required site layout, site grading, and site utility plans. Dr-E Right-of-Way plans were created for the city of Columbus due to integration with a public alley running between the building and parking. City of Columbus stormwater “CC” plans were created with underground detention installed to meet stormwater quality and release rate requirements.
The new building has an entry lobby and atrium dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. and President Barack Obama, as well as an art gallery dedicated to the Columbus artist Aminah Robinson.
