Description
Moody Engineering, LLC was responsible for the civil/site engineering of the new 55,288 SF College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology for Kent State University. Located on the site of an existing parking lot, design work included demolition, utility relocation, new water, sewer and gas service. The project also included the design of all sidewalks, driveways and new surface parking facilities. As part of this project a sanitary holding tank was designed to alleviate added flow to an existing public system nearing maximum capacity. Moody Engineering worked with the University and City of Kent to coordinate the sanitary system and facilitate permitting of the holding system with Ohio EPA. Ultimately through sustained flow testing in the existing sewer, it was determined to have capacity for the flows form the proposed building and the holding system deemed unnecessary.
The new building has several new laboratories including an Air Traffic Control Lab, a Sustainability Lab, an Aeronautics Teaching Lab and a Materials and Processes Lab. The building achieved LEED Gold Certification.
