Description
Moody Engineering provided site design and civil engineering for the total renovation of the old Koffolt Laboratory (formerly named 140 W. 19th Ave.) and Fontana Laboratory, which are two adjoining buildings, and the replacement of the existing high bay space with a new addition. The buildings now house the departments of Materials Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.
The civil engineering scope encompasses stormwater management, site demolition plans, site layout plans, site details and the design of civil components that have LEED credits. The site utility plans included water, sanitary, primary electric power and site lighting, gas, steam, telephone, tel-com, storm lines, steam and chilled water.
Unique Factors
• The stormwater management required underground detention due to restricted open space on site, while still being sensitive to the aboveground aesthetics and landscaping.
